Gärdserums kyrka

In the 13th century the first church known with certainty was built in Gärdserum, which was formerly called Gellerum. According to legend, it was a woman of a noble family named Agneta Philipsdotter who originally built a small chapel or so-called prayer house, which later became a timber-framed church. The church was also called a “riding church”, since the church here was an annex of Ukna and the priest came “riding to the church”.
