About the church
Fatmomakke kyrka is a church building in Fatmomakke in the Diocese of Luleå. It is the parish church of Vilhelmina parish and is located at the upper part of Lake Kultsjön in Vilhelmina Municipality. Adjoining the church is Fatmomakke kyrkstad (church village) with Sami huts, storehouses and cottages, which is of national interest for cultural heritage conservation and is protected as a cultural reserve. Fatmomakke church site came into being around 1790 to meet the needs of the mountain Sami for services during the summer and became a starting point for the early Sami associations movement in the early 20th century.
